Nasal Septal Suture Technique versus Nasal Packing after Septoplasty: A Prospective Comparative Study

چکیده
Nasal packing materials are widely used in endonasal surgery, including septoplasty, turbinoplasty and paranasal sinus surgery. They are also used to prevent synechiae and haematoma formation, to support septal flap apposition, and to close dead space between cartilage and subperichondrial flaps [1]. Several types of nasal packs are used post-operatively in nasal and sinus surgery. There are various packing materials described in the literature, such as different types of gauzes with or without medication, Tefla, cellulose and foam, absorbable gelatin sponges, Merocel, internal nasal splint, polyethylene oxide gel and alginate [2].

Nasal septal suture technique versus nasal packing after septoplasty.
BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to compare eustachian function and blood gas changes with nasal packing (NP) and nasal septal suturing (NSS) after septoplasty. METHODS Eighty patients who have nasal septal deviation and who otherwise are healthy were studied. Forty of these patients had finger glove NPs in their nasal cavities for 48 hours after septoplasty. Another 40 patients had NSS p...

The trans-septal suturing method has been developed in septoplasty as an alternative to packing. This study was carried out to compare the postoperative results of trans-septal suturing with the anterior Merocel packing technique. The study involved 697 patients who underwent septoplasty. Following surgery, patients were randomly divided into two groups, one with trans-septal suturing and the o...
متن کاملNasal septum suture combined with inferior turbinate coblation after septoplasty: Does it improve quality of life and reduce complications?
Objective Nasal packing is routinely applied after septoplasty. Patients, however, report feeling very uncomfortable while the packing is in place. The aim of this study was to compare the effects of nasal septum suture combined with inferior turbinate coblation to the effects of nasal packing after septoplasty. Methods In this study, 135 patients undergoing septoplasty were divided into 3 gr...
متن کاملSeptoplasty without Nasal Packing: Functional Outcomes and Complications A Prospective Clinical Study
Septoplasty is the third frequently application among the otorhinolaryngological surgeries [1]. Traditionally, nasal splint and packing are applied to maintain homeostasis, inhibit hematoma, and prevent the displacement of bone or cartilage grafts and support septal flap following septoplasty [2]. However, studies questioning the routine use of packing have been published in the recent years. I...
متن کاملEvaluation of the Functional Results and Complications of Trans-Septal Suture Technique in Septoplasty
Septoplasty is the main surgical procedure to overcome nasal obstruction caused by septal deviation [1] and is one of the most common operations in otorhinolaryngology [2]. It has a long history with multiple variations, but the core principles have remained unchanged for decades [3]. But this surgery may be associated with numerous complications such as post-operative nasal bleeding, septal he...
